UNDERSTANDING HOW GOD LEADS 3A - PASTOR SIDNEY OMOROGBE

There are two sides to God, we have the side of mercy and the side of judgement. Mercy over His children and judgement over the oppressors of His people. 1 Samuel 2:6-10. We serve a God of vengeance, Deuteronomy 32:39-42. The mercy of God delivered the children of Israel from captivity after 430 years. While the mercy of God delivered them from their oppressors, the judgement side of God killed their enemies, same night. Exodus 11:1, 4-7, that was the plan of God and it was executed in Exodus 12:29-36. While judgement struck the children of Egypt, the children of Israel went to borrow from them, and they quickly attended to them, in fear. Those things were borrowed, never to be returned. They were like divine restorations.

Until the God of vengeance shows up, the wicked may never give up. Ecclesiastes 8:11-13.

What is vengeance?
1. Vengeance is punishment inflicted or retribution exerted for an injury or wrong that is done to someone. Psalm 149:7.

2. Vengeance is to revenge for an act carried out against one unjustly. Deuteronomy 32:35.

3. Vengeance means to pay back in response to an act of harm or perceived injustice. Nahum 1:2.

4. Vengeance means divine judgement; in order words it means back-to-sender. It means people that are your captors will become captives. The hunters shall be hunted. Jeremiah 50:15.

Some of our attitudes give the enemy the power to oppress us.
We should understand that God is a God of purpose, and He has His appointed days for vengeance. Atimes, it may look like nothing is happening, He does things at His own time. When God’s appointed time comes, the difference will be very clear. There is always the day of vengeance. Isaiah 34:5-8. There is a day God appoints for judgment just like there is a day of judgment in a Court of Law. Isaiah 61:1-2; 63:4; Jeremiah 46:9-10.
Why will God judge people? Why is there vengeance? God has His reasons for executing judgment and vengeance.

Understanding the purpose of vengeance
1. To react and reward the actions of the adversaries. God’s vengeance is a reaction to the wickedness of the enemy. The enemy acts, and God reacts with vengeance. Deuteronomy 32:35-39.

2. For people to see the reward of righteousness. Psalm 58:3-11. So those that are mocking you will know that the God you serve is a God of righteousness. It proves that the God you serve is a righteous God that vindicates you. A good example is Mordecai and Haman.

3. For determination of controversies. Isaiah 34:5-8. He executes judgment to end controversies. Esther 2:21-23; 3:1,5-7. There is no way, under Heaven, that darkness will overcome light. After the attempt on the King’s life that was thwarted by Mordecai, Haman was promoted instead of Mordecai! That was a controversy. What led to Haman taking the promotion and harvest that accrued to Mordecai was because Haman was consulting some powers – manipulative powers (vs 7). God let Haman to gather properties for Mordecai to take over! God is not slow, He is smart! You will not only get what you lost, God will give you with compensation.

4. Vengeance is necessary to establish your liberty and rescue. God executes judgment for the rescue, healing, deliverance and breakthroughs of the saints. Isaiah 35:3-10. God will come and deal with the source of your troubles, bondage and afflictions.

5. For the establishment of the fear of the Lord in the land. Isaiah 59:17-20. For people to fear him and know that He is still in charge. There are people who would not fear God until they see things.

How do I enforce divine judgment?
1. You must be totally born again and dedicated to God. If you are not born again, do not ask for vengeance. 2 Corinthians 10:6. God is ready to revenge all the errors of the wicked over your life when your own obedience is complete. Luke 18:7-8.

2. Through prayers. Psalm 94:1. We provoke the God of vengeance when we cry to Him in prayers. Exodus 3:6-8. God sees your afflictions, but you need to cry to Him, so He can avenge for you. Genesis 4:10-11, even the blood of Abel was crying for vengeance.

3. By the Anointing. One of the assignments of the Holy Spirit is judgment. John 16:8, 11. Herold in Acts 12:1-5 took Peter to kill him. The saints began to pray and Peter was delivered by an angel and in that same chapter, God’s judgment came and God struck him. The assignment that Herold was trying to stop, after his death, the Word of God increased and multiplied.
