Understanding the True Meaning of Greatness – I Chronicles 29:10-12

God’s word is likened to a spiritual mirror to help us see life in its true and clear perspective (Jms. 1:23-25). To enjoy colourful future, live your life according to scriptures. God’s perspective to the issues of life is totally different from the natural man’s perspective (Isa. 55:8,9).

The natural or worldly man view greatness in terms of fame, power, position, wealth, material possessions, etc; but true greatness, according to the Bible, is defined by your ability to meet-great-needs. A great man is someone who meet the needs of many others, he is selfless and kind hearted.

We shall be examining some scriptural examples of great men in the Bible.

1. Abraham – Gen. 12:1-4. Abraham’s biological family consist of just three individuals – Abram, Sarai, and Lot (Gen. 14:14). Abraham had three hundred and eighteen (318) servants that were born and raised in his house. Abraham had a minimum of three hundred and twenty-one (321) people living with him, and being cared for daily. He was indeed a great man!
2. David – 1Sam. 22:1-5. As a young man, most likely in his twenties (20s), David took up the responsibility to gather four (400) grown men and his family members; despite the fact that he had no accommodation, no job, was living as a fugitive and his life in constant danger. These men, who later increased in number, became the mighty men of David and contributed to his greatness (2 Sam. 18:3, 23:8-39).
3. Jesus – As a young man of thirty (30) years, he took 12 disciples (which later increased to 82, with 70 others added (Lk. 9:1, 10:1). He was responsible for their care and welfare for three and half years; even on the cross, at the point of death, he was still making arrangements for his mother’s housing needs and saving the life of a condemned man (by his side) on the cross (Lk. 23:39-43, Jn. 19:25-27).

True greatness therefore is not in how much you have, but how much you have given! It takes love and responsibility to emerge great in this kingdom.

Go out of your way to help someone in need and let your words give hope and encouragement to others. Practice greatness daily.

You shall experience God’s goodness and mercy today. You will have a reason to celebrate.
