What are we thanking God for as a Commission – Pastor Sidney Omorogbe

December 8, 2019

In James 1:17, Every good gifts and perfect gifts come from above from the father of light. If you don’t give God thanks for what he has done, I will curse you and scatter your blessings (Malachi 2:2)
In the story of the 10 lepers, only one returned to give thanks to God and his skin was as white as snow.

What is thanksgiving?
Its acknowledging the acts of God in our midst.
Its the celebration of Gods acts in our lives. (Luke 17:17).

By the diverse fulfillment of prophesy from the raw hand of God (1 Kings 8:15). In 1 Samuel 3:19, And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

Why must we give thanks unto God?
1. Its the debt we owe God. (Luke 17:17)
2. To preserve our blessings. (Malachi 2:1&2)
3. To perfect our blessings (Luke 17:15-19). The other lepers were cleansed but only one was made whole.
4. To multiply our blessings. Thanksgiving is a spiritual yeast that increases our blessings (Jeremiah 30:19)

How do we give thanks acceptably?
1. It must be heart rooted.
2. It must be done quickly (Jeremiah 30:15-17)
3. We must do it cheerfully (Jeremiah 30:19)
4. We must do it with understanding. (Psalm 47:7) – Understanding means going under to check what is making things stand…
In 1 Thessalonians 5:18, it said, in everything, give thanks to God. When we give thanks, Gods creates a wheel to wheel us out of our situation. The easiest way to change things is by thanksgiving.

FUN FACT: Jonah Died in the belly of the fish. (Jonah 2:4-10). He was made reference to in Matthew 12:40 (Just as Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights)
