Understanding the power of Thanksgiving Pt 2B - Sidney Omorogbe

Thanks giving is a mystery. Mysteries are divine secrets embedded in scriptures. (Mark 4:11)

2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” Mysteries looks simple but are very complex.

Anytime God does something for us, there is a record. God healed 10 leppers, but only 1 returned. Meaning that only 10% of the population are the one showing gratitude. Meaning that those who involves in thanksgiving are very few.

2 Timothy 3:1-3 (For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy … )

Why people find it difficult to give thanks to God.
1. Comparism. We compare too much. Dont use someones ruler to measure your success. The boss in your office might have money but he might be envying you for your sound health. In Psalm 1:3, the bible says that everyone have a season. Things are working for someone doesnt mean things wont work for you.
2. Offences. People are offended with God because of unmet expectations. In the story of the prodigal son, Luke 15, the elder brother was offended and refused to eat from the celebration of his brothers return. He said to his father, I have served you for many years, yet you havent given me the smallest kid (young cow) to celebrate with my friends.
3. Pride: Some people have attained a level in life and are proud to give God thanks. Dont let your sufficiency bring your downfall because pride goeth before destruction. In Daniel 4, Nebuchadnezzar was made to eat grass like oxen because of his pride. (Daniel 4:30).

If you want to be thankful, take stock of what you have and give thanks. God will multiply what you have. If you take time to check what God has done, its definitely more than what he has not done.

John 3:27 (John answered and said, A man can receive nothing unless it be given him out of heaven.)

What is the benefit of thanksgiving
1. It establishes our restoration and greatness in life. Nothing restores your glory than thanksgiving. If you are not humble, you will stumble.
2. Its a tool of deliverance against theh day of trouble. Psalm 50:14-15. Nothing provokes deliverance than thanksgiving.
3. Provokes perfection and completion. In the atmosphere of thanksgiving, our works are prefected. (Exodus 23:30)
4. It brings comfort and fullness to life. (Isaiah 51:11)

Thanksgiving is the highway to multiplication and glorification in life. (Jeremiah 30:19)

Focus of Thanksgiving
1. Thank God for the Past
2. Thank God for the present.
3. Thank God for the future

Romans 1:8: First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is proclaimed in the whole world.

Nehemiah 12:38 “And the second choir went in the opposite direction upon the wall, and I after them, and the half of the people, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even to the broad wall;”
