Romans 10:17 – So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Experiencing God’s Power in Prayer – Genesis 32:22-28

Supplication is the scriptural cure for human frustration. Prayer is the channel where you take the issue beyond your control to the God that has control over all things (Psalms 40:1-3). Until you cry out you cannot come out of that horrible situation (pit). You cannot knee before God in prayers and be overwhelmed or bow to the circumstances of life.

In our focus of study today, Jacob came to a cross road. His past sin was catching up with him. Esau, his elder brother, was coming to meet him with four hundred of his men to take vengeance upon Jacob and his household. At this point, all his strategies as a trickster could not save him, he had to turn to God in prayers.

He took certain steps to experience the power of God in prayers:-

  1. The bible says he arose that night (Genesis 32:22). The best time to pray is the night season of your life.
  2. He put aside every care and distraction in order to seek the face of God (Genesis 32:22 – 23).
  3. He was left alone. That is, he separated himself from every other source of help and depended on God alone. Until you are left alone, God cannot appear in your case. He will always show up when he is all that you have left.
  4. He wrestled with God in prayer all night. To wrestle means he had bodily contact with God. That talks about close fellowship and communion with God over a long period of time (all night). The power of prayer is released through deep fellowship and communion with God not emergency visits in time of crisis. God desires bodily contact not long distance call.

Results of Effective Prayer:-

  1. It changes your person. God did not change Jacob’s circumstance after praying, but He changed his name; that is, his character and nature (Genesis 32:28). In the prayer room, it is your person before your victory. Once you have power with God, you will naturally prevail over men and circumstances.
  2. When prayer changes your person, your circumstances will naturally change. Esau that was out to kill him ended up kissing him (Genesis 33:4). You can’t truly pray and end up as a prey.

Stay blessed.
