The Leadership Secrets of Jesus V – Luke 2:41 – 52

Leadership is not for the faint hearted; leadership is work that often comes with criticism and insults (Isa. 9:6, Jn. 7:3-5, Mk 3:2, Lk 11:14,15).

The man in front (leader) will always be spoken against and insulted. It comes with the job description, it is only those behind that back bite, there is nothing like front bite because the man in front is too busy pursuing other things. The best way to cancel insult, is to have results. You must develop a tough skin to lead and also develop the habit of using criticisms and insults as ‘fuel’ to move forward.
The art of being a leader comes with two critical tasks – to build people (Neh. 3:1-3) and to repair people (Neh. 3:4-32). In building the broken-down wall of Jerusalem, Nehemiah and his followers built a little and repaired more. As a leader, our assignment has more to do with repairing the destinies of people and building also lives. To build, you guide and instruct; while to repair, you correct, rebuke, reprimand, discipline, etc. A wise leader will build others that will help him to build and repair many other people.

Principle No. 5 – Every Leader is a Follower of another Leader

Leadership is in levels, every genuine leader is a follower of another leader (Ps 23:1). David the greatest king of Israel saw himself as a sheep following the Great Shepherd (God). Until you have reference, you cannot become a reference. Every leader is a follower of another (I Cor. 11:1). Who you follow determines what follows you. Leaders recognize their superiors and camp around them to draw strength, knowledge and inspiration (Lk 2:46, Matt 4:19). Jesus, despite being young and an apprentice carpenter, camped around the leaders of his days. Every head (leader) that does not have a ‘head’ over him is heading for destruction. Fear people who tell you I fear nobody, nobody can tell me what to do; their days are numbered.

Whatever assignment Heaven has committed to your care, there are people who have gone ahead of you with godly results to show, locate them and camp around them. Those you sit with today will determine where you will be asked to sit tomorrow – a throne or cell, the choice is yours. We are commanded to love unconditionally but counseled to associate wisely (Prov. 13:20). You can follow others through their books or teaching materials and CDs etc.

You will end your journey well. See you at the top.

Shalom!!!
