The Leadership Secrets of Jesus II – Luke 2:41 – 52

There are two classes of leaders viz positional leaders (position occupiers) and functional leaders (influencers, change agents).

Leadership connotes the leader-in-ship. It means the one that directs and influences others towards achieving set goals (Neh. 2:17, 18). Followership on the other hand means those- that-follow-in-the-ship. The common factor in both ‘definitions’ is the SHIP that holds them together and going in a particular direction. Leadership is an awesome responsibility that must be carried out with due diligence and sensitivity to divine leading because the destinies of people are tied to you.

Jesus was not invited to sit on the high table at the wedding in Cana, but he turned the water into wine – a leader is a solution provider (John 2:1 – 11). Stop struggling for seat (position) but develop capacity to solve problems.

Principle No. 2 – Leaders are Caregivers and Nurturers
Joseph and Mary went with Jesus to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover and on their way back, they didn’t bother to check on him, they assumed that he was with his peers and kinsfolk (Lk 2:43,44). They were not diligent to know his where about and wellbeing. Assumption is an enemy of effective leadership. Leadership is work, you carry the burdens of others on your shoulders (Isa. 9:6 …and the Government shall be upon his shoulders.)*

Proverbs 27:23 – A true leader needs the heart and the hands. The heart to care for and hands to help others.

If you give them your heart, they will give you their hands to lead (Bishop David Abioye). David as a teenager was saddled with the responsibility of leading and caring for four hundred men (adults) and he did a perfect job by making mighty men out of them (1 Sam. 22:1 – 4).
